Wow!
I e-mailed Richard Brunstrom (whose blog I've linked to), with my views on the idea and content of his blog (basically, keep it up!), and received a reply the same day! That's more than can be said for most senior officers in my old force, or indeed even the Chief Constable of that force!
Definately recommend a visit to his blog, as unlike other 'official' police blogs he writes about what he gets up to and his view on things, as opposed to trotting out a press release through another channel of distribution!

well having only stood my post for 17 years i can only say
“Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who’s gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago’s death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives…You don’t want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.
We use words like honor, code, loyalty…we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use ‘em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I’d rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post.”
the man is a lost for words

You are taking the p*ss aren't you.
The quote about PCSO's being "phenomenally popular" is risible. The singular biggest waste of money ever. We need more officers and the public deserve more officers. Having our taxes wasted on employing more civilians in a sudo uniform is not the answer.

Is this the same Richard Brunsom, Chief Constable of North Wales, who embraced the policy of zero tolerance for crime, realising that "the public wants us to be less tolerant of crime and disorder even with quite minor offences"? (BBC 29/11/2002.) the same guy who arrested two for fighting with him in the street at Llandudno last Christmas Eve, two who were later released after apologising. Wow indeed. Makes you wonder about the strength of Brunson's evidence.
Now he is whining about the heat in his office, paperwork, but 'it is fantastic getting a full day out on the street doing "real police work"' ya-da, ya-da.
If this is the Chief Constable of North Wales, then thank God that North Wales has a Police Force.

Ahh, yes. CC Brunstrom.
The man who in a blog advocates media action as being effective.
In spite of the fact that the North West media have been laughing at him for years, with little result.
CC Brunstron who regards motorists as a bigger threat to public safety than those carrying knives.
CC Brunstrom who issues worry beads to his officers.
What a fantastic leader of men. I'm so glad I don't live in North Wales.
...and to think I actually support the work that our Police Forces do. The lowlife must love him.
"Allright Mate, we've got the drugs and left that old lady without her pension - just rememebr not to speed and we'll never be detected..."
Promoting people out of harm's way can ultimately backfire...
